If you have liver disease and are short of breath and/or have low oxygen levels, you may have hepatopulmonary syndrome. This is especially likely if you have clubbing– a change in shape of the fingernails. You can learn more about the symptoms of HPS on our About HPS page.
Since HPS is a rare disease, it can be difficult to diagnose and many physicians may not have come across anyone with this disease. Many patients who have HPS may have been tested for many different diseases and may remain undiagnosed for long periods of time before being diagnosed with HPS.
If you would like to talk to your physician about hepatopulmonary syndrome, we have created this information sheet for you to share with your doctor.
